Well water filtering question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

We have a non-potable well on our place ( fecal contamination from 50 year cattle operation asross the road), does anyone have any suggestions for filtering for household use. I would like to use this as a source for filling our swimming pool next season. I told my wife I thought shocking the pool would suffice, she said until I can filter it out complete, that well is only used for liquid fertilizer.

First- have you treated it with chlorine? This should be done every year. You can get a whole house filter and add a home chlorinator to it. After that you can proabaly drink it. The only thing that will take out the bacteria is a chlorinator or ozonator. The whole house filter will remove particulates and taste(depending on the filter used). Check with your ag extention agent. They can help work the problem out.
