Syncrude's Expensive 'Incident'

More problems at the Syncrude oilsands plant in Fort McMurray, Alberta. A fractionator vessel, used in refining cleaner oil, was damaged as it was being started up, resulting in damage that will cost $5 million to fix. Because the repairs will take about three weeks, oil production for the year will be four million barrels less than forecast, and each barrel produced will cost more. Earlier this month, 13 Syncrude employees were checked out in hospital after a leak of hydrogen sulphide. Syncrdue Canada is a joint venture of nine oil and energy companies.
