Homesteading chat on msn

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

This subject comes up fairly often so I decided to go ahead and attempt to start a homesteading chat. Most people have msn chat so I thought that would be a good place to put it. The room will be open from 8pm central time, Monday through Saturday. The name of the room is Homesteading and if necessary the password will be 'farm'. My nickname is OzarkMom. Ya'll are a great group of people and I look forward to chatting with ya'll.

Im new to the Internet, please tell me exactly how I can get in the homestead chat room Thanks Roxanne

Can anyone help Roxanne? I don't know much about web tv. I was trying to find the most easily accessible chat room I could for everyone. I know most regular computers have msnchat already on them. If you don't know how to find it hit start, then programs, then accessories, then internet tools and you should see the msn chat link.

hi i don't think msn will work with webtv most chats won't.the best place for webtv users is TalkCity also people with computers can use it. i started a chatroom there called COUNTRY-LIVING a long time ago but noone seemed interested but it is still there.it is opened 24-7. you go to talk city scroll down to enter a chat room you already know type in COUNTRY-LIVING exactly as it is written here and you will be there. hope you guys and gals can get this room going! cindy

TalkCity will support WebTV. I posted about that and opening a "room" for folks here to use. If you can't make this one work, go ahead and use that one. There's no fee or anything.

You can read my post and find out how to get there at http://hv.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=003y7z

or just scroll up to the Homestead Chat thread (same one).

I put Homesteading in the Chat room box and it came up NONE FOUND. Where are you going to Chat, which one?

I'm sorry you couldn't find the chat this evening. Msn had technical problems earlier this evening and I got offline for a bit hoping they would fix it. I am online now. I hope it will go smoother tomorrow evening.

I tried it, by going to http://chat.msn.com/default.asp and clicking on "join a chat". I was told the room didn't exist and asked if I wanted to create one (I didn't). Perhaps you will have to provide us with the URL.

Hello, everybody...I am embarrassed and sorry. I went to msn chat Friday evening(10/27/2000) and similarly found I was not able to get into any Homesteading chat sites. So, smartie that I am...:) I went ahead and created one. Promptly came here and invited several of you to join me. When I tried to log back into the chat room I'd created not 30 minutes prior to that moment...I was told it did not exist. Seeing the subject matter for some of the OTHER chat rooms....makes one wonder if msn is only interested in hosting perverts and such. Again, I apologize to any who may have attempted to chat last Friday at my invitation. We'll have to keep looking...I'd really appreciate such a support-forum. Thanks! Sincerely,Dave Roper

I have had the homesteading chat open faithfully every evening at 8:30pm central time and have had noone come in there. I usually keep it open until 10pm. I realize that some of the content on msn is disgusting. I don't visit those rooms, the only reason I chose msn is that most people already have it on their computers. I will open the room again Mon - Sat this week and then I give up. For people not familiar with this chat server I'll give the instructions again. Hit your start button and go to programs, then go to accessories, then go to internet tools and choose msn chat. You will be asked to choose a nickname and then it will take you online. What might be the easiest way to find the room is to do a person search. At the top left hand side of your screen you will see a little box with a persons face in it. Click on that and then a box will pop up that says search for people with this in their name. Type in any part of my nickname and hit enter,I should pop up. Click on my name and then click join user. This isn't as complicated as it sounds and only take a few minutes. My nickname is OzarkMom.

Thanks,Mom:) I'll try to get aboard your Homestead chat this week...Later!

I'll try it again too. I have the MSN chat on my computer and have never used it, but I will give it a go!

http://communities.msn.com/SmallFarm - this is an exsisting community at msn which has a chat room and right along the lines of what is going on here. In the summer it is pretty dead, but is now starting to pck upp once again.

this may be a good solution.
