KAMPALA, Uganda (October 24, 2000 6:54 a.m. EDT http://www.nandotimes.com) - A light airplane trying to land at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda plunged into Lake Victoria, killing four German passengers and the pilot, police said Tuesday.
The plane was en route from Kilimanjaro International Airport in northern Tanzania when the crash occurred Monday evening, police spokesman John Kimera said.
He said the cause of the accident was unknown and officials were searching for bodies.
Kimera said he had no names or hometowns of the Germans and did not know the make of the aircraft. He said he had neither the name nor the nationality of the pilot.
Planes taking off or landing at Entebbe airport fly over the lake during landings.
Civil Aviation Authority officials said investigations were under way.
