growing medicinal herbs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Does anyone out there grow medicinal herbs,on a large or small scale,to sell?It seems like there may be a market for the wild ones that are being over harvested.I live in Vt.,we don't have a real long growing season,but we have good land.If anyone has experience with this I sure could use some imput.gayle torrey

Contact Frontier Natural Products Co-op, 1-800-669-3275, or www.frontiercoop.com or contact The American Botanical Council, I don't have their website handy, but both of these companies are all about the ethical production and use of medicinal herbs, I encourage you to join Frontier Herb Co-op, they are great! There is a medicinal herb co-op recently formed in a county south of me. It works like any marketing Co-op. An article in Countryside a few issues back discussed this Co-op. I canb't tell you off the top of my head which issue.We are a warm zone six so have a pretty good growing season. When I get some more planting beds up & running, I was going to look into this co-op further.

Yes, Frontier herbs do buy from american suppliers... HOWEVER... they are choosy and want a certain amount... not just a few pounds either... I'm talking 55 gal. barrels....

I suggest doing a web search... as I don't have the address of The Herbagram... I think I spelled it correct...

I would highly suggest growing the herbs that do grow well in your area for a year or two to watch them....

I have had my herbal garden for 4 years now and I'm always learning something new...just by observing... and I have about 60 different herbs out there too... my herbal garden rivals my veggie garden in size!!!

Beings that I make my own tinctures and ointments and oils for my own use ... and family and friends... I use my own herbs

Horizon Herbs of Williams, Oregon... offers a beautiful supply of medicinal herbs for folks to grow... I have dealt with them for 5 years now and have never been disappointed... and Richo has an excellent collection of books... I have everyone of them... and they are great!!!! Their web site is http://www.chatlink.com/~herbseed

Sorry I don't know the procedure to hyperlink on this website... I know other site ;-}

If you want to e-mail me... I have many herbal links for all aspects.. would gladly share them....
