I Bought Land!!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I've been trying to hold off telling anybody 'til I signed the paperwork, but.....I really did it!!! I can't believe it, but I just bought 2 1/2 acres in Missouri. I've never even been to Missouri! I've seen lots of pictures of this piece of property, though, and since it was reasonably priced and financed, I grabbed it. I've been seriously thinking about this area because of the longer growing season, lower taxes, less restrictions, etc. I'm not going to be able to move there for a couple of years, but when I do, I'll have a friend already there. If you can believe this--gail and I are gonna be NEIGHBORS!!! We share a property line!! I'm the luckiest girl alive! I'm so excited and HAPPY! I'm so glad to have all of you to share this news with! Cathy in NY

Good luck with that land! Getting out of NY is a real step forward, i left 6 years ago and have never even thought of going back. If I did not like Oregon so well i would think seriously about Missouri.

Hi Cathy--

Congratulations----we sort of did the same thing....well I did anyway. my hubby got a job hert and aside from 2 hours of video tape I had never been here before. I love it and I moved from California..

Welcome!!!!

I can't afford to leave NY for a couple more years. I want to leave here debt-free and with cash for a well, and some type of structure to live in, even if it's a shed!

If any of you don't have a will, please have one done, please. My Dad passed away without one, and even though he made his wishes very clear, my stepmother has been jerking my family around for over three years now. Without going into all the nasty details, we kids are pretty much supporting her until she turns 62. Then she will follow through with his wishes. Quite a mess, but it will all end in 2 years.

Congratulations Cathy!! You must be soooooo excited. I'm still dreaming of the day when I will be able to do the same.

Good for you! Don't know if you've owned before. If you have'nt and find youself wide open awake with "mortgage shock" the first few nights, don't worry, it goes away fast. Just walk out and look at all thats YOURS and dream of the potential and make it happen.

Tried to post here last night but site was under maintence so will post now. I feel very blessed to know that I will have a nieghbor like Cathy in the future. I have had my land for a few years and lived here for 3 1/2 years but from reading her posts feel that she will be the one doing the teaching. Hope that all those who have the dream to won land will also come to the happiness that comes when that dream becomes a reality. As good as that day is the real work then begins as you take the land you have bought and work to make it into your homestead. Good luck Cathy and may God give you the strength to continue in fulfilling your dreams. gail

How did you go about finding the land, without having seen it? We're kinda thinking of buying land when we retire - but don't want to drive all over everywhere.

Cathy, that is just way too cool!!! I bought my land in April and can't move out there for a couple years, but the experience is new enough that I can really relate to your jubilation!!! I'm getting choked up thinking about it, I'm so happy for you! I hope things go very well for you so you can get out there quickly. Wish I had a neighbor like Gail, too!
