energy vampires

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

My husband says that cats are energy vampires...they always want to get right in the center of whatever you're reading or looking at, wherever your attention is, they want to be right in its direct path. And wherever there is light or heat, they got to be right there. Ain't it the truth!? And what marvels of engineering cats are! Mine is snoozing in my lap at this very moment. I think cats see human beings as a constantly changing panorama of sofas.

I don't know that I would call them vampires, exactly -- there isn't much nicer than a nice warm cat snoozing on your lap when it's chilly out! In that case, I am the "energy vampire" as I'm taking heat from the cat -- or maybe we are helping each other stay warm, in which case it's a symbiotic relationship. The same for when my cat sleeps right at the top of my head at night -- like a heated night cap!! The local mouse population would probably agree with your husband's vampire assessment, though!!

Meow ( we let him name himself), is more like a dog than a cat. Greets me at the door when I come in, comes when I call him. He does burn outs on DJ too.

Guess my 6 month old dachshund is somewhat like a cat too. He always has to be in someone's lap. If you sit on the couch, he wants to curl up in your lap. If the kids sit on the floor, he climbs right in their lap too. Funniest to me is how EVERY time I get on the computer he wants to be in my lap. Now that he's grown more, he's alot longer than he used to be and so he doesn't quite fit in a lap like he used to. He just curls up into a tighter ball. One night I was at the computer getting out some invoices for hubby's business. The dog wanted to get up in my lap as he always does, but for whatever reason, I just wasn't up for it that night so I would pick him up. He went in to his room, got his blanket and put it in the corner right in front of the file cabinet next to my chair and curled up and went to sleep. What a sweetie!! Aren't animals the greatest?

My cats sleep on chairs or in beds here next to my computer, while I am working on it. Then when I go to bed, they move down there with me too.
