Do you work best in noisy or quiet conditions?--Al

-- Al Schroeder (, October 20, 2000

Quiet! in college I couln't stand it when people wanted the t.v. or radio on while they studied. I can only concentrate in silence and fall asleep when it's quiet. I suppose it's because I grew up in a rural, woodsy area and I'm over 10 years older than my sister & brother. I was the only child, without any neighbors to play with, for too long.

Definitely quiet, unless the work is really mundane. If I have to think, I need total silence. I need silence for sleep too, which is unfortunate, because I live across the street from a truck yard, a railroad track and an elevated train track.

Well, at work I like it if it's quiet around me (people-wise), but I have to have music on. I keep it pretty low, but if there is no music, just silence, I go crazy.

When I was in college, I needed silence to study and any noise at all would distract me and drive me crazy.

Few noises bother me as I have worked in very noisy environments, Traffic, machinery, office noise, power plant hisses, rattles and bangs, and am used to filtering out noise to hear the information.

A baby crying continuously without someone paying attention to it, an old, senile, demented patient in a nursing home who suffers glossolalia bothers me as they can't be helped by me - and that bothers me in both cases, I want to get up and go see if I can find out what is wrong with the baby and do what I can to make it comfortable and happy or hold them on my lap being company to them through their belly ache, in the instance of the oldster, it is the frustration that comes with the realization that there is no way to help.

I guess it is frustration of realizing that the need is there and I am helpless -- not not the noise per se.

For the most part, I want it quiet. I hate having to listen to noise not of my own making if I'm trying to concentrate. Music is fine, of course.

I love really loud music when I'm studying. I particularly love listening to music such as Mozart and Sepultra playing at the same time!!

*laugh* I've gotta try that: classical and metal at the same time :)

I have a question about hospitality. If someone have the ability to give some suggestion about the following topic i will be thankful. HRM department can not exist in a vaccum. discuss this, talk about the relationship between HRM department and other departments within a hotel.
