GORE SAID HOMOSEXUALITY 'ABNORMAL' AND 'WRONG'; VOWED NOT TO TAKE MONEY FROM GAY GROUPS

Presidential hopeful Al Gore once declared that homosexuality is an abnormal lifestyle and vowed not to accept campaign funds from gay groups, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.

In 1981, Gore decried homosexuality during a town meeting, according to eyewitnesses and press accounts of the session.

When one participant asked Gore about homosexuality -- which the man described as a "sin" -- Gore responded that homosexuality is an abnormality which should be discouraged. "I think it is wrong," Gore explained to the audience. "It is not just another normal optional lifestyle."

During his senate race three years later, Gore said he would not accept campaign funds from homosexual groups, the TENNESSEAN reported on October 28, 1984. "I do not believe it is simply an acceptable alternative that society should affirm," Gore explained to a reporter.

[The press clippings quoting Gore on homosexulaity were first discovered in a local library in Tennessee. Library clerks later hid the papers in back rooms, claiming they were destroyed.]

The comments sharply conflict with Gore's current statements on homosexuality.

Earlier this year, Gore declared: "The time has come to widen the circle of fairness and dignity to include our brothers, sisters, friends, and neighbors in the gay and lesbian community. And if you entrust me with Presidency, I will fight for the basic fairness and opportunity you deserve."

But in 1988, Gore considered taking steps to prevent homosexual activists from using his delegate slate in the Georgia presidential primary to win seats at the Democratic National Convention.

Homosexual activists won positions on the Gore slate during two Georgia congressional district caucuses that year. "We did not know that that was going to take place," Gore told the CHATTANOOGA TIMES AND FREE PRESS on February 3, 1988. "We are examining the situation now to see what the options are... we want delegates who are loyal to my candidacy and who will not pursue another agenda."

"This is outrageous!" a senior Gore insider said this weekend from Nashville. "Are you sure the vice president said that? Could you fax me the newspaper stories. I just can't believe he would say those things."

After viewing the press clippings, the well-placed campaign insider agreed to comment on the record only on condition of anonymity.

"Listen, Drudge. I am gay, and this does not sound like the man I know, the man I have seen in action," said the stunned source. "I am not going to sit here and excuse what he said back in the 80s, but he sure is standing up for gays and lesbians in this country right now. Look, he was running for office from a conservative southern state, maybe he had to say those things to get elected. I am sure he did not mean them."

When pressed if Gore could actually be tailoring his beliefs on homosexuality during the current campaign to win favor with the donation-rich gay community, the source laughed and said: "Vice President Gore is no Dr. Laura! He does not think I am 'deviant.'"

"I'm going to lay it on the line.. The next president of the United States has to be someone who the American people can believe will stay with his convictions." -- Al Gore, 1988 Democratic Presidential Debate, 2/18/88.

Keep in mind that the Sludge Report is not a source of real news, it is a National Enquirer of the Internet. He posts any unsubstantiated lies by right-wingers, as long as it suits his agenda.

Even if this does turn out to be true, 1981?? Give me a break. The world has changed a lot since then.

I heard that Dubya was snorting up half of the cocaine coming out of Peru back in 1981. He and his frat buddies were also knocking up all the innocent young virgins on campus back in those days. When they came back pregnant with his children, he gave them $100 of his Daddy's money toward an abortion and told them to get lost. Abortions were about $200, but he told those girls it was their fault as much as his, so they should pay half. The girls didn't even know what was happening to them when Dubya and his buddies were raping them, because the fraternity boys had spiked the punch with drugs. Now he is against abortion.

Uncle Bob,

I'm not sure if Gore is homophobic or not, but he definitely picks his positions based on the polls. Of course, Gore has learned much in the last eight years watching the master of waffling, William Jefferson Clinton, flip flop as he saw fit.

Sorority Girl

Please list all times Drudge was wrong...like about Monica's dress, etc...

Hey Uncle Bob, I'll give you a few examples: Drudge has reported, many times and erroneously, that Hillary Clinton would be indicted. He also reported that Janet Reno would be fired. He reported that Bill Clinton had a "love child", which has turned out to be untrue. He reported that Bill Clinton has a syndrome which causes his penis to curve to one side, he's also reported that Bill Clinton has an American Eagle tattooed on his groin area. ALL LIES.

I'll be more than happy to dig up the attributions for the above. You'll have to admit that you are wrong, though, and I don't think you will want to do that.

Sorority, tis true, your boy, Al, did come out against gays when he first went to DC. Been reported even by the liberal press, sorry, can't find the link now. He learned from his dad how to sway with the polls. Also, Sorority, girls didn't know the punch was spiked. Give me a break! Bush raped them! LOL Oh, us girls are just too innocent; we don't know which end is up; we're too stupid to know about frat boys.

I love this quote from his camp, Look, he was running for office from a conservative southern state, maybe he had to say those things to get elected. I am sure he did not mean them. Yeah maybe he doesn't mean a lot of things he says. He just says them to get elected. Yep! This sounds like the Gore I've watched.

Lots of people don't like gays. I noticed Dick Cheney was really squirming during the debates when asked questions about blacks and gays. He had a real hard time faking it.

No, Algore just/only, thinks/thought it is/was abnormal. Hmmmmm... last time I checked abnormal was/is a synonym for "deviant."

I hate to appear as if I'm parsing the word "is", but the words abnormal and deviant do have different connotations.

Abnormal: deviating from the normal or average : UNUSUAL, EXCEPTIONAL

Deviant: deviating especially from an accepted norm; deviant behavior

Homosexuality can be abnormal without being deviant, IMO. Nature intended penises to fit in with vaginas, and in that sense it is abnormal ( the great majority is heterosexual, i.e., the "norm".) But homosexuality, as it become more and more understood, tolerated and accepted, loses its deviant connotation.

Both homosexuals and heterosexuals can demonstrate deviant sexual behavior, seen in this light.

Forgot to give the definition sources for the words:

Smarty:

Okay, point taken. I did put it [abnormal] in my super sophisticated (runs on a watch battery... ;-) Merriam-Webster "WordMaster" and deviant came up as a synonym.

I do agree connotation (sometimes) takes precedence over defination. Take "vulgar" for example. My dictionary says it means (1) "of or relating to the common people." But the connotation for the word vulgar is something along the lines of "disgusting."

Word-rambles, gotta love 'em

This sounds like every politician I have ever seen.
