PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (AP) - Two people aboard a helicopter were killed when the aircraft crashed midday Saturday near a residential area in west Broward County, authorities said. The pilot was killed on impact. Witnesses pulled a woman from the wreck and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived and rushed her to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, where she later died.

No one else was hurt in the crash.

The Robinson R-22 helicopter took off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport at 11:30 a.m. and went down at 12:08 p.m., said C.A. "Corky" Smith, senior air traffic investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board.

The craft crashed west of Interstate 75 on a road near the residential subdivision of Towngate, he said.

The helicopter is owned by Volar Helicopters at Executive Airport.
