The New Elan 7e

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi,

I'm thinking of trading my A2e for the new Elan 7e when it comes out mainly because I hear it will be appreciably smaller. Is this true and what other differences should one expect?

Thanks!

Paul,

Take a look at: http://www.elan7.com/

Here you can see specifications and compare them to the A2e.

With the Elan7e you'll get eye controlled focus horizontally AND vertically, unlike the A2e. But what's perhaps really most signifgant is that the Elan will give you Canon's most advanced autoflash system to date (when used with EX series flashes):capability to synch flash to your highest shutter speed, a flash version of exposure lock, ETTL metering, etc.

Check out the links provided in the answers to my question:

420EX specs VS 550EX (Roy Kekewich)

to learn more about EX flashes. I have the ElanIIe and 380EX and swear by them, esp. in the quality of mixed ambient/flash exposure. Remarkable results. The most natural looking lighting in flash shots I've ever seen. A Canon service mgr told me pros are claiming better flash results with this (my camera/flash) combination than they get with the 1N and 540EZ!

That's not surprising, the 1n and 540EZ use outdated flash metering, A-TTL and TTL. I think that A-TTL isn't even used in Av, Tv, and M modes so you're stuck with TTL?

Yes, the Elan 7 is smaller than the A2. However the A2 shoots at 5 frames a second AE, 3.5 in Ai servo. The Elan, 4 frames a second AE, 2.5 in Ai Servo. The Elan 7e is quieter, with newer computer processors, and electronics, and is less expensive (the A2 sold for over $700 when first annouced and even last year sold for $600.) Go ahead, you'll get more camera for less money.
