What about an email about confiscation of guns?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I got an email from an unfamiliar person who claimed to have inside information about an upcoming confiscation of all guns. Does anyone have any real info on this? I would be very upset if I have to protect my poultry and livestock without my trusty 410.(not to mention my poor chickens)

Ah , the internet, a wealth of information, a dark tool of misinformation, more hoaxes than April Fool Day, but mostly an extesion of every day social life. How would you handle this had you heard it in a crowd? Check it out to the best of your abilities. I myself don't open unsolicited email.

Jay, the reason I posted this question here on the forum, was to check it out to the best of my abilities. I have had a lot of help in the past from this site. but this is the second unsolicited email that has come from here too. This has me wondering about the wisdom of using this forum esp. since some have shown a shocking lack of manners and respect for the opinions of others. I have seen what happened in Austrailia when the government collected all the guns regardless of location, use, and ancestry of the weapons. I really can not believe it would happen here but many other unbelieveable things have happened in my life time. In your wisdom, sir where else should I go to get an honest answer to this question?

The state of California is currently confiscating (or attempting to) certain guns, primarily SKS with a magazine larger than 5 rounds, I believe. There are a number of other states that are voting on bills that include the option of gun confiscation, and there have been bills put before Washington that deal with gun confiscation also. Remember, England already has done it and Australia has too essentially. Don't say it cannot happen here, but so far as I know that is where we are now on the matter. My family has always been very, very pro right to bear arms. Arms are all that keep us free, either from our own government or from foriegn governments.

Everyone send in your checks to the NRA I do not agree with everthing they do but i agree more with them than my goverment about guns .I drive my pickup with 2 stickers in the back window

1]If guns were outlawed only outlaws would have guns.

2]A woman with a gun has more fun

Karen,

There is the rather extensive confiscation that the California state authorities have given themselves the power to carry out that Green was refferring to. They have authorized themselves to confiscate anything that is on their "Assault Weapons" bill. This includes nearly all forms of auto loading weapons (including a few that dont exist), none of which are actually "assault weapons".

There is also SB2099 which is generally considered to be a precursor to confiscation. The same type of laws were enacted in other countries just prior to confiscation. Those subjects are discussed rather extensively in two posts in the political archive so I wont bore you with reposting all that. The titles of those two threads are "Heads Up (Hand)Gun Owners" and "Are you ready to register your Guns?".

http://snopes.com/ this is one of the many sites to look up Urban Ledgends etc. When I receive unwanted E-mail I usually send the folks back this site, and also some E-mail of my own. Vicki

I just spent some time looking for the substance on HR4033. It alters one of the first pieces of gun legislation if I am correct. They are now setting 50 million aside for the purchase of bulletproof vests for police.

William, you seem to be awfully good at this stuff, if you could please try to ferret out the substance of this resolution, that would be great!

If anyone watched the presidential candidate debates last night you will notice that Mr. Gore wants everyone that plans to buy a new gun to have to obtain a special picture ID from his/her state before being able to purchase a gun. That, in my opinion, is the precursor to gun control/confiscation. I will not do that. It is my right in the Constitution to bear arms, and I will not pre-register for the right.

Has anyone heard or read about an IRS commitee adding a note that requires us to list our guns on our 2000 tax forms? Also a 50$ tax per gun! If so what should we do about stopping this now? I read in the Hopkinsville New Era about this happening. Like a lot of things some are real and some are not, this forum is our place to find out truths. Thanks, Wayne Roach

good for you patty! i have an odd mix of stickers on my old volvo including " i have PMS and a gun, don't mess with me" and "keep honking, i'm reloading". I am a Second Amendment supporter and a woman. God created man and woman and Colt made them equal. I am 200 lbs with plenty of 'tude and very strong, but against a gang of cranked-up teenage boys bend on mayhem, rape and deathmetal mutilation, i prefer an equalizer!

Doreen,

Im having difficulty finding anything on a federal HB4033 that is presently being considered. The most recent reference that I have found so far is that that number was used on a social security modification in 1998. Do you have a title for the bill or who sponsored it? I will look a little further with any additional information that you might be able to provide.

Here is one of the four versions. It is now in thee Senate, but there is all of this reflexivity to other laws in the bill and it makes my brain spin after awhile, because in those other bills there is more reflexivity!! I think I possess fair comprhension, but this tuff is like calculus to me and they have all of these slight grammatical changes of hyphens and colons to commas and semi colons and I know it makes a difference in the meaning but am uncertain as to the impact.

I guess I have to confess. I DID send out to many of you (regular correspondents) a silly little website to visit (www.slaphillary,com). Unfortunately, another addressee sent a reply and hit respond to all addressees. He launched into a diatribe about a house bill that I must believe is another attempt by the socialist government to overturn the 2nd Amendment. I chastized him for his action and language (although I couldn't really argue with his logic). My apologies to all who were thus affected. I did send an apology directly, but maybe some of you were inadvertantly left out. Sorry, and GL!
