Re-encode to put headers B4 every GOP?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Does anyone know of a way to re-encode an mpeg1 file to add sequence headers before every GOP? Also, does a re-encode take as long as a "normal" software mpeg encode?

I ordered a Dazzle II and I'm assuming it dosen't put headers before every GOP. I want this because it's necessary for chapter points.

Thanks.

You can reprocess a .mpg without reencoding using "MPEG Sequence Maker" at http://www.vcdhelper.com/panasonic.htm#addgop You have to demultiplex your .mpg (I use TMPGenc Mpeg Tools) run this app on the video stream, then remultiplex the new video with the audio, time consuming but it does work. If anyone else knows a tool that can do this in one pass, please speak up!

Thanks. I downloaded the program, but when I went to remultiplex the new video with the audio using TMPGnc, I noticed it also seems to have the ability to insert headers b4 every GOP (by telling it how many GOP's you want between each header).

So dosen't that make "MPEG Sequence Maker" unnecessary?

Your right Leebo! Tmpgenc fixes it. No other need for another program. I have a dazzle also, and that is all I use to fix all my GOP problems. The Retards at dazzle only have the mpeg vcd template (which bytes) make a gop every sequence header.

Aha..., I'll have to look closer at that TMPG multiplex screen... if this is true, score more points for Hiro-san and TMPGenc! thanks for pointing this out!

OK, I had to encode some .mpgs last night so took a look at TMPGenc. I think Leebo was talking about TMPG's ability to put sequence header each GOP as it encodes, yes indeedy doo, I use this feature with great success. It's when I have a .mpg (from Panasonic, e.g.) without sequence headers and I want to make a new one without re-encoding, that is when I have to demux/run Sequence Maker on the video/remux. I saw no option on Multiplex for sequence headers.

Maybe I'm not understanding, but I thought this puts sequence headers before every GOP in TMPGnc:

Click on configure. Click the "GOP structure" tab. Set "Sequence header output interval" to 1.

This should put one GOP between each sequence header, according to the "pop up help".

Isn't this equalivent to putting sequence headers before every GOP? I'll try it on a test Mpeg later and see if I can insert index points on it and report back.

Well, my DVC II arrived today.

I made a test VCD with it (after more that half a day just to get the Moviestar software to install, but thats another story). To my surprise, I was able to set chapter points in the mpeg file using VideoPack 4, without running the file through the de-mux process!!!

Now, if I can improve the video quality I'll be in there.

Does this work with svcd mp2 also?

Hey not sure I can answer but I have a question. Where do I get TMPGnc or anything to convert AVI to VCD?????
