Vxararfoss, ^ingvellir National Park, Iceland. Minolta X-570, MD Rokkor 20mm f/2.8, Tiffen warming polarizer, Provia 100F. Tricky light; in Iceland twilight and sunrise lasts forever, and the midday un is not far off the horizon in September (feels like it's 9 AM all day long).

A little history: ^ingvellir (pronounced "THING-vul-leer"), where the North American and European tectonic plates meet, was selected as the meeting place of Iceland's (and Europe's) first parliamentary body, the Al~ing, in 930 A.D. The area is dotted with rifts, the largest of which contains these falls and makes a very good natural amphitheater. Legend has it that the Vxarar was diverted to its present location in order to provide a dramatic backdrop to meetings of the Al~ing.

p.s. More Iceland photos at http://members.aol .com/cldphoto/iceland.html. Unfortunately, several have the "hand of man" in them so you won't see them here.

The sky is wonderful and falls but my mind wants to see the detail in the foreground.

Hmm. On my computer I'm picking up some more detail, but here at the office it looks pretty dark. Now that I look at it, it's screaming for a neutral density grad filter. Oh, well.
