Cheap Temporary(?) housing idea.greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
www.durakit.comRan accross this site in the latest Popular Mechanix Mag. Kinda gives a whole new look to living in a cardboard box! This did look interesting when applied w/ Countryside thinking. Might be of help to someone. John

Looks better than some mobile homes I've lived in. May want to keep it in mind if my wife gets fed up with my online time.

Looks like a real neat idea! I have a friend who wants to build a vacation home on 20 acres he has in Maine, I sent him the page and voulenteered my labor if he bought the kit.

The zoning board and fire saftey folks would love this, it looks like something the 3-littel pigs would build.

Fifteen dollars a square foot still isn't cheap, when compared with the same basic housing (no utilities included in the base price) made from materials available on the property. The only advantage that I can see is that it would be quick shelter. But they list tents as being in the same price range -- they must be talking about specialty structures of some kind, because a regular tent is only a few hundred dollars, not a few thousand. You'd be better off with a camp trailer or a small older MH, as they would at least have wiring and plumbing and a heating system included. (I can't imagine trying to heat a cardboard house with a wood stove!)
