European appliance group Monotub shares in spin over supplier problem

By Rosie Murray-West

WASHING machine group Monotub has delayed the launch of its Titan machine after getting into a lather over a supplier problem. T he Titan washing machine takes 40pc more washing than a conventional machine, and has a detachable basket to lift the clothes in and out. Chairman Martin Myerscough said yesterday it had been planned for this autumn but will now be launched in February.

He said: "We want to avoid the Christmas period as well, when electrical goods supplier are pushing stereos and televisions, rather than white goods. Some people do buy their wives washing machines for Christmas, but there is no way I would get away with it. We could either have a limited launch before Christmas or save our ammo.

Those men will just have to buy their wives a DVD player instead."

Monotub shares fell 62.5 to 542.5p, but Mr Myerscough said they would recover.
