Ronco-Showtime Rotisserie

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Does anyone have one,or any other rotisserie? My oven took a dive so now I only have a sm. toaster oven. Goodhousekeeping rates the Ronco 9 stars. But adds it browns unevenly. How much power wattage/usage? I`ve read that it was somewhat flimsy for the price. What did you pay and where did you buy it? I would rather get it from a store as returning it (if nessasary) would be easier. I don`t care much for microwaves. ~Thanks

Assuming you have an electric range, does either your oven or broiler coils work? If either does, do they respond to heat settings? If so, your thermostat is probably OK. Then I would suspect the coil. It should unscrew and unplug in the back of the oven. You can test it yourself by running a current through it or take it to an appliance repair shop for testing. If the coil is bad, replacing it should take care of the problem at probably about the cost of a decent toaster oven.

Viv, I have had a Ronco since last Christmas and we love it. All the meat prepared in it stays really moist. I have fixed everything from kabobs to chicken breast to burgers and like them all. It is relatively easy to clean, most of the componets will go in the dishwasher. The only drawback is that it is rather large, although not as big as the Foreman rotisserie I have seen. Mine cost about 179.00 at a Shop Ko store here in Southeast Missouri. Let me know if you have any more questions. I use it about twice a week, which is pretty good for a gadget! Mona Lea

Another possibility is use a 18qt roaster oven. They look like a big rectangle crock pot. I have one it will bake a 12-14lb. turkey bakes I have baked cakes, cookies and bread in mine. They sell for around $60-100. This might work better for you if you are trying to have something that will replace an oven. gail

Thanks Ken, but it`s gas. The 18 qt. sounds interesting. Wondering if it can brown a cassarole and other things? Mayby that and the roissarie will do the job. But new stove might be the better thing to do. ~Thanks All ~Viv

Me again when I use my roaster the pie crust is browned when I bake rolls they are browned so would think it would brown a cassorole. Please not they are not as big as a oven and some cookie sheets won't fit it has been fine for a household of one and would be good for a stop gap measure but I know if I was cooking for a family I would miss a full sized oven. gail
