The Elan IIE has the ability to effect eye control focus during shots in the horizontal (landscape) and vertical (portrait)positions.

Does the new Elan 7E have this same capability? I know that the A2E can only effect eye control in the horizontal position.

Yes, looking at a copy of the literature Canon sends to photo shops, you can do both vertical & horizontal. It uses the 7-point AF system, that I believe was borrowed from the Rebel 2000. In addition, the literature claims that the 7E's Eye Controlled Focus is even faster than the EOS-3! (by 10ms) I'm saving my pennies & probably going to sell my FD gear to switch to the 7E.
