Jerusalem, Oct. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Three Palestinians, one a 10- year-old boy, were killed and more than 70 wounded after violence flared for a fourth day between Palestinians and Israeli security forces, Agence France Presse reported, citing Palestinian hospital sources.

Violence continued to sweep across the West Bank and Gaza Strip after Prime Minister Ehud Barak called for the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to intervene to stop the fighting, AFP said. In the West Bank city of Hebron 200 Palestinians hurled rocks at Israeli troops, who responded by firing rubber coated metal bullets, reports said. The violence also spread to Arab towns in Israel, including Nazareth, AFP said.

A total of 27 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds more wounded since fighting broke out Thursday when right-wing Jewish leader Ariel Sharon visited the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, AFP said. The site, known to Muslims as Haram al-Sharif, is sacred to both Muslims and Jews.

The Israeli army and Palestinian security forces yesterday had agreed on a cease-fire, AFP reported yesterday.
