Copal 1 Shutter - what's the large triangular knob for?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

I apologise for such a basic question.

I have just bougnt my first LF lens which has a Copal 1 shutter. The only thing I haven't figured out is the black plastic triangular knob in the side of the shutter. Can anyone tell me what it does?

Many thanks.

The triangled shaped knob opens the shutter for viewing. After you finishing focusing you shut the shutter with this same knob. At that point you can cock the shutter mechinism with the round knob. Bob P.
