WA: PUDs rake in millions from power sales

WENATCHEE -- Public utility districts in Central
Washington made millions of extra dollars from
sales of excess electricity this summer because
of skyrocketing prices.

That could mean no rate increases for their
customers.

Demand for power in California pushed prices to
$1,100 a megawatt-hour, from the usual $22 to $42
made on the open market by the Chelan and Douglas
PUDs, officials said.
