5x7 Arista Film update

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

To those who are interested: Freestyle Photo will be carrying 5x7 Arista 125 and 400 B&W films starting shortly after the new year. NO PRICES are set at this time but by association with their 4x5 and 5x7 pricing we can be pretty much assured it will be $2 or more less than the other 5x7 films of the same speeds they are selling now.

I have been working with the film buyer & am glad they are receptive to the idea. With Kodak going to the requirement of one purchasing 3,000 sheets of 5x7 film at one time, paying upfront and then waiting 2-4 months for delivery, we will have one more option when the supplies of TMax and others finally stop.

If you are a 5x7 user or have been thinking of it, this will be the same film available in 8x10 and 4x5 sizes. Both speed emulsions are nice to work with and I welcome the film in this size. And, for your friends who may be thinking of moving up to a larger format from 35mm, let them know the 5x7 makes a lot of sense as it is very close to the proportions of 35mm film, a lot more so than 4x5.

Can you provide us with some of your experience with this film as per its performance? What developers and dilutions work best for rotary and tray development. How about reciprocity?

Thanks for your efforts to bring this to fruition. Myself and the growing list of 5x7 users are very appreciative of a bit of positive news. Well done!

Another graet source for cut fil is Photo Warehouse. I purchased their ISO 125 Pan Film. They purchase it in something like 2,000 foot rolls and they will cut it to size if you need something special. The prices are great and I believe the film is FP4.

One problem I have had with Arista film is dust! Yes, I have have received several boxes of 8x10 with a significant amount of small dust particles. Drives me nuts, just won't go away.
