DVD to VCD using TMPGenc????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

i can create/burn/play mpeg1 streams (2600cbr, 352x240, 29.97fps) which play successfully/glitch-free on my toshiba dvd player.

i've been using the vobdec->flaskmpeg/panasonic->Nero approach, but would like to try using TMPGenc for the mpeg1 encoding instead for comparison of quality.

i can load a vob file in TMPGenc, but cannot (or don't know how to)select one of the ac3 audio streams in the vob, like i can with flaskmpeg.

using TMPGenc, i've been able to extract/save the video and audio streams to separate files, but, again, TMPGenc does not accept the ac3 audio file as the audio source (unsupported format).

is there a way of doing this in TMPGenc WITHOUT converting the ac3 audio file to a "supported format"? just trying to avoid the extra step...

Go to http://www.vcdhelper.com There is guide to use FlaskMPEG + avisynth + TMPEG (under topics of DVD to SVCD, but applicable for VCD too). Basically you use the avisynth plugin to FlaskMPEG and start it as a frame server. Then TMPEG picks it up from there. Let me know if it works. I tried with my NTSC DVD the other day, but didn't get results. It goes blank after the FBI warning screen :) Maybe because I was trying to convert directly from NTSC DVD to PAL VCD. I will try NTSC to NTSC next time.

i never really bothered to try, but what i did is put the dvd in my dvd rom, opended it using explore and just copied the vob files to my harddrive and then i put that in tmpeg. Although i have it set as a vidseo cd it still made the picture super sized (708something), but it converted fine, although with no sound). I could swear i have seen some simple ac3 to something programs out there i will take a look, but this is very interesting...

Hi Dough I would like to have a question about DVD convert to Mpeg1. Should I have to have a DVD player or a DVD Rom to copy them to computer before converting. I never have a computer DVD player that why I wonder about it.

Would you please give me a explanation.
