Government regulation on film?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : No Extra Day : One Thread

From what I hear, and shoot me in the dingy if I'm wrong, is that both our choices for Prez want film to be more restricted. Regulated by the Government.

Freedom of Speech anyone?

How long until Fitts here gets kicked out of the country and has to live in Switzerland? Bets?

I think that there is always a tendency for government, of all countries(and political parties), to want to regulate expression.

That being said, Here in the United States, in the context of our current election, I think that our candidates will soon forget any promises about regulating film, if for no other reason because those promises are looked on, I think, with skepticism, perhaps even by some of the people who like such promises.

Just a personal opinion.

I have to agree with Frank here.

And that's all I can say for now... until I can get home and actually post something without my boss looking over my shoulder. *sigh*

???? i hate politicians. give me a third party that dosen't sell out to the PTC or the NRA or other groups and i'll be happy. but when will that ever happen? I think Jesse Ventura should've ran for the presidency.

I think it should have been Bill Maher with Dennis Miller as a running mate. Or vice versa. Either way I'd vote. They know the issues. Hell, they've somehow managed to keep half the country up on current events without putting them to sleep. That's impressive in itself. At least we'd know what we were getting.

I can assure you more people would watch the State of the Union.

We had Reagan, why not two more actors? Gracie Allen ran for the Suprise Party half a century ago and actually made more sense then the candidates of the time. I say they should run. What would the party be called though?

Reagan is really not a good example of anything other then the bizarre opinions of the American public. He was a bad actor and a [right] wing nut as an elected official, probably served the latter portions of his term whilst missing more then his fair share of marbles, but somehow he was enormously popular.

Anyway, both candidates might be ass clowns, but previously I thought Bush would be the least harmful for one term, as he would try and placate every body in prep for the second term election (after which his crazy honkey ass would try and force school prayer and harsher mandatory sentencing for jaywalking), but then I saw him laugh. He laughs exactly like Nixon. bad george, no white house for you.
