Recipe for Graham Crackers?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
Hi! I have two kids under two and they both LOVE graham crackers. (I don't allow much else besides fruit for snacks.) Anyway, they eat about a box and a 1/2 a week. I would really like to find a recipe...it would save me a bunch, not to mention I wouldn't have to throw so much packaging away. Also, any other snack crackers recipes would be appreciated. Thanks!

This is from The Fanny Farmer Baking Book...4 Tbl. soft butter, 1 beaten egg, 6 Tbl. sugar - beat til smooth and creamy. Blend in 4 Tbl. honey. Disolve 1/2 teas. baking soda in 2 teas. water, then add to butter mixture. Combine 1&1/2 cups graham flour, 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, 3/4 teas. salt. Combine dry and butter mixtures and blend thoroughly. Roll out on flour-dusted surface to 1/8" thickness. Score dough with a knife without cutting through.(whatever size you want them to be.) Prick each square a few times with the tines of a fork. Bake 350 degrees 6-8 minutes each side, gently turn with spatula. You can sub. 4 teas. sugar mixed with 1 teas. cinnamon for the honey, for cinnamon graham crackers. Good Luck!

Also, Carol, graham flour is also called whole wheat. Pilsbury flour actually says so on the packaging. (I went shopping today)

The Fanny Farmer book says that it is the same as whole wheat flour, sometimes more finely milled. I would think any wole wheat flour would work just fine.

Thanks, I feel a little silly not knowing! You don't learn if you don't ask though. I have plenty of fresh whole wheat flour, don't use the nasty stuff from the grocery. Carol

Hi, I made up the crackers with the recipe above, and it seems to work better using cookie cutters. Easier to turn over. They were very good! Mary
