European stock markets sank to ten-week
lows on Thursday, hit by panic selling in
blue-chip telecoms and technology stocks
amid heightened fears for corporate
earnings following yet another U.S. profit
warning.

. . .

``It's a very nervous market and we are
seeing a lot of fear after the initial
greed which sent these stocks higher
earlier in the year,'' said a senior equity
sales trader.

. . .

British Telecom, France's Alcatel and France
Telecom were the top European blue-chip
decliners, off more than five percent.
