I know it's election time 'cause the county is out here re-paving my perfectly good road.

Last road commissioner race I voted for the guy who repaved my road.

Actually, I'm told it is more cost effective to repave before major rework is needed. Most of the roads in this county started out as chert/gravel roads. Then a mix of hot tar and gravel was put down, which works for a fair amount of time if the road is not heavily traveled. These were often paved, but just don't have enough support under them to hold up even with our not having major freeze/thaw cycles, plus heavy trucks put major stress on them. That new layer now goes on a good foundation and should last for a long time without any further maintenance by the county. It probably isn't surprising the county has a hard time finding people who want to patch potholes when the surface of the road is over 100 degrees.

I wish I was so fortunate.

I dont suppose any of you have any ideas on how I can trade my well paved mini-van drivin city slicker county road for one of your old gravel ones do ya?
