Retinning and refurbishing a cream separator

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I recently bought an old Montgomery Wards cream separator and the previous owner said that it needed to be retinned. They also told me that the gears needed some attention?! Anybody know what that means? I get the retinning ok, but the gears? He plugged it in and it spun like nobody's business!!! And I only gave him $20. cool.

The gears might have a chipped tooth that doesn't quite always mesh or something like that. A machinist could built it up and cut it back to correct shape if that is the case. Just not cheap though.

I believe that re-tinning was in an earlier thread here. You might look in the archives. Seems it was $200 plus, but memory doesn't always serve me accurately.
