how to sharpen garden shearsgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread
OK, I admit it, I wasn't paying attention when Martha Stewart showed how to do this... but I was doing some yard work this morning and my grass shears and clippers wouldn't cut anything! I know you can use a file (rasp??) and I think you only sharpen the "blade side". Do you sharpen only in one direction? At any angle? Thanks. I really enjoy the forum since I found it and have learned alot (just not how to sharpen my shears, yet.........)

Connie, don't use a file unless you're really good with a file. try a sanding block and sandpaper or a narrow whetstone. Keep the same angle unless you want to completely rebuild the edge and that doesn't work well on sissors and shears and two bladed stuff that has to come together. Try just getting it bright and shiney on the blade side . You can use a Dremel tool or other brand small rotary tool but that's like the file and will leave dips and waveys and ruin the angle unless you're really careful. If you know someone with a small table belt sander that works better than anything, but watch the angle and wear glasses. good luck
