ACL 661 SW Switcher : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

I recently worked for Tacoma Rail as a brakeman and discovered that one of our motors, #1202 was former ACL 661. Does anyone have any project going to get this unit preserved and back to Florida? I will be moving to the Tampa area within two years and would be interested in getting such a project moving. I was project manager on the all volunteer group that built the Olympia Amtrak station and have experience in fund raising for such a project. Anyone interested, let me know. Bob Bregent

Bob, I could be very interested, but I am in Albany, GA. Our museum here (Thronateeska Heritage Center) is located in the former Union Passenger Terminal and is about to begin a major series of restoration projects on our small collection of railroad equipment. ACL and the Central of Georgia were the two main players in the Albany area and a switcher from the ACL (in purple, of course!)would be a perfect addition. SW-9 661 was built in 1951 and fits well with the time frame of our other equipment. We hope to have a new exhibit building to protect the equipment after restoration. As always, all it takes is money! Is there any chance of the unit being available? In what condition is the locomotive? I look forward to your reply. Thanks. Stephen
