Euro fuel protests disrupt NZ meat tradeEscalating European protests over high fuel prices are disrupting New Zealand's meat trade in Europe, as well as fruit exports.
New Zealand's Kiwifruit marketer, Zespri, estimates it has lost half its sales in Europe this week as a result of blockades and fuel shortages.
The apple exporter, ENZA, says it has not lost sales but has major obstacles getting its product around Europe and Britain.
The blockades are also disrupting the delivery of New Zealand lamb consignments.
The AFFCO meat company's sales manager for Europe, Stephen De Groot, says there are no problems getting the meat to Europe, but distributing it is proving more difficult.
De Groot says blockades and lack of fuel are also forcing AFFCO to redirect some of its air-freighted chilled lamb to other destinations in Europe.
