Backwoods home....?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I know there's a pub.called Backwoods home....kinda a little to Liberatarian for me...but there's another one with a very similiar name that is Christian-based. Does anyone know the title? My mind is drawing a blank.....

Beth:

You may be thinking of Back Home Magazine. I'm told it was started by former TMEN staffers. I don't know the name of it, but when I go to an annual spring consignment auction in the Mennonite community south of year there is a booth for another magazine which informally refers to itself as a 'Christian Countryside'.

Beth I am guessing you are thinking of Back To Home magazine.

There is a Backwoods Home magizine, and it is a good 'un. They have a VERY active forum on the net, too--just type the name into your search engine. But I like Countryside better, and I hang out at this forum now--much more "on subject," and easier to keep up on! But there is good info in BOTH publications. I don't always agree with their editorial stance, but you gotta admit--Duffy (their editor) makes you think!

Beth, I think you may be thinking of Back Home Magazine. It is published out of Hendersonville, North Carolina. It is a self- sufficiency mag with a lot of good information in it. It stays out of the political arena. Backwoods Home is out of northern California/Oregon area. It also has a lot of good self-sufficiency info in it, but it enters the political arena. They make no bones about the fact that they promote the Liberatarian philosophy. Good Luck

I had always enjoyed Backwoods Home, but when they got into the homeschool area which is totally against my thinking (their evolutionist) and I emailed them that they shouldn't give our kids their ideas, they emailed me back explaining my children should understand both sides (which may be right) but I am the parent not them. I hav Let my subscription expired. They also spend to much time on political stuff. On a recent email he sent to subscribers he thought it his responsible to tell all of us his philosophy in life which is not Christian but gets along with christians and has many working for him. I felt he didn't need to tell me any of that.(or the million others that got the email)

There is a magazine called Coming Home which is Christian and covers homesteading..being wise stewards of all that God has given us. I've taken all my back copies to my DIL's ,but if you are interested I can get the address for you, I think they have an e-mail address.
