4,600 New Jersey Lottery terminals disabled by transmission line problemBy Associated Press, 9/14/2000 19:28
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) New Jersey Lottery officials said 4,600 of its 6,000 ticket terminals were disabled Thursday due to a problem in a transmission line.
Terminals throughout the state were knocked out at 11:30 a.m., sending lottery players scrambling to find a place to buy tickets.
Despite the shortage of places to play, the Pick 3, Pick 4, Jersey Cash 5 and Pick 6 drawings would proceed as scheduled Thursday night, New Jersey Lottery Executive Director Virginia E. Haines said.
Haines said the problem occurred in a transmission line running between Newark and Hamilton Square. AT&T owns and maintains the line and the company was working to fix it Thursday, according to Haines.
In the meantime, thousands of lottery agents are unable to sell tickets.
