America West Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Phoenix

The Associated Press

PHOENIX (AP) - An America West flight from San Francisco to Phoenix made an emergency landing Monday night at Sky Harbor International Airport with only one engine.

A spokeswoman for the suburban Tempe-based airline said the other engine for Flight 2037 had shut down when the pilot reduced power while descending to land.

Patty Nowack said the Boeing 757 was carrying 100 passengers, none of whom was injured.

Why the engine shut off had yet to be determined. The plane was taken out of use for repair. Nowack said the plane is designed to be able to fly safely with one engine.
