Lameness^2

I will not pretend to speak for CPR, though we agree on much.

I will share this, in hopes it may help clear some of the confusion surrounding why some people react the way they do to some statements - with the understanding that I am only speaking for myself:

It was frustrating last year and the year before to have analysed the facts sufficiently to reach a logical conclusion regarding the possibility of the roll-over affecting more than a remote handful of isolated systems, and then to be subjected to unfair (by this, I mean one-sided) "moderation," death threats, verbal attack, and ultimately abuse of authority (fascism) when attempting to share this analysis with people who (claimed they) were; 1) interested in the subject; and 2) seeking the truth.

For some, it takes more time to overcome the emotions that are nothing more than the natural response to such treatment by others. Personally, I am still dealing with the remnants of these emotions.

For me, what has helped more than anything (believe it or not) has been a demonstrated reversal of some of this. A little fairness goes a long way.

Are those who dislike CPR - for whatever reason - continuing to fuel the fire that burns them (perhaps they actually enjoy the verbal duels...)? And so I wonder if all the balking and criticism of Mr. Reuben's chosen style of expression doesn't also contribute to his resolution to continue? I know it did in my case (I have honestly stated before that there would never have been a Quotably Quoted #7 had the email address been editted in the fake Quotably Quoted #6 as it had been in another obviously faked post). [And, before you ask; the fact that another or several other email addresses were editted serves only to establish more selective moderation. It actually re-inforces the fact that some are singled out for application of the "rules," while others are denied similar treatment. And, if it is not based upon views (present or past), it is all the worse, for then it is abuse of an individual.]

So, instead of all the lameness (or lameness^2) complaining about Mr. Reuben, who was, after all, correct in his assessment about the outcome of the roll-over prior to the non-event; has anyone thought of thanking him for his efforts to: 1)inform those who were interested; and 2) provide accurate information on the (now historically-proven correct) reality?

Just a thought...

Regards,
Andy Ray

Sure, I'll thank CPR. As a token of my appreciation for all he has done for me, I will allow him to kiss my sphincter.

Sorry Andy, you are not worthy. :-(

You are certainly free to do as you please.

Andy Ray, the animosity started noticably in Jan. 99 when the forum became blitzed by nasty, insulting, immature trolls. Up until that point, real, intelligent discussion was the norm.

After a couple months of disruptions, attitudes changed. At first the best advice was to ignore the trolls, but not everyone did, and the trolls stayed. I don't know if you or cpr were one of them, but you may have been or you came on here at the same time as them, and therefore appeared as just another troll, and you nor cpr did anything to appear otherwise.

Your post were condescending bait, and not much more. But cpr is still hard, and I do mean hard at work, 9 months after its over.

KoFE,

Yes, CPR is hard at work. And though I do not speak for him, I offer an explanation as to why that may be.

Andy Ray

CPR,

I agree with your characterisation of the material posted at the Hysterium.

Andy Ray,

>and then to be subjected to unfair (by this, I mean one-sided) "moderation," death threats, verbal attack, and ultimately abuse of authority (fascism) when attempting to share this analysis with people who (claimed they) were; 1) interested in the subject; and 2) seeking the truth.

You mean you took the claims of 1) and 2) to mean that there were no other important characteristics of that group of people that it would be wise to take into consideration, such as their also being interested in protracted forum arguments and making extreme statements and verbal attacks? Tsk, tsk -- how naive of you to be surprised by subsequent abuse, attacks, and other forms of unfairness. ;-) However, "we grow too soon old and too late smart", as my mother used to say.

Not to mention that the topic of Y2k was more likely to attract crazies and extremists than many other online forum topics.

>And so I wonder if all the balking and criticism of Mr. Reuben's chosen style of expression doesn't also contribute to his resolution to continue?

I hope you don't mean that others, not Mr. Reuben himself, are responsible for Mr. Reuben's decisions and actions. *He*'s the one who chooses to do what he does after reading criticism. (Similarly, those who post criticism chose to do so themselves and cannot justly blame Mr. Reuben for making them do that.)

>has anyone thought of thanking him for his efforts to: 1)inform those who were interested; and 2) provide accurate information on the (now historically-proven correct) reality?

Hasn't he already been thanked enough by those who weren't put off by his large-font postings? Do you think he really needs the approbation of those few who were, too?

It seems to me that Mr. Reuben continues to participate in this forum for reasons other than trying to gather more thanks for his Y2k efforts from those who have not yet offered such thanks to him. :-)

No Spam Please,

You may be correct. In any case, you present strong arguments.
