Cleaning b&w negatives

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo: Creativity, Etc. : One Thread

I have developed a lot of filmrolls in my short life (just 17 years) I normally use AGFA APX 25 or 100 ASA. I bought some Kodak TMAX 400 and 100 cause the were on sale. I developed them in Rodinal and used the same stop bath as I always do, then I put then in a Ilford Fix (normally I use the agefix from agfa) I washed them 10 minutes and rinsed them negatives of with my finger as always. But somehow I have stains on the negatives. so cleaned them again and put them into a wetting agent. but still stains remained. So what should I do? My mum said I should clean them with vinegar like stop bath. Should I do that without a doubt. Or should I buy a negative cleaner. thanks for your help. Georg D. Kettele AUSTRIA

The negatives might be underfixed. Try refixing them, then use a hypo clearing agent, then wash. One of those things should eliminate the stains.

I agree with Conrad. I fix T-Max twice as long as my 'normal' b&w film.

Is it a pink stain?

The base color of Tmax is pink. I first use a presoak to get a lot of it out. Then after I fix it I use hypoclear for 3min instead of 2min, and 5min of water wash. Without hypoclear I wash it for at least 20min.
