What is the role of the World Bank?

The World Bank is the initiator and initial supporter of Country Gateways as country level partners of the GDG.

At the initial phase the Bank provides seed money through its InfoDev program and other technical and logistics support both from the HQ side and from the Country Office.

Once the GDG Foundation becomes independent from the World Bank, the Bank will play mainly a role of content and funding partner.

However, the Bank will always remain a key stakeholder as a parent institution of both Global and Country Gateways.
