Possible spoiler from E! News Daily

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Okay, let's try to get away from the fighting. Here's something from E! News Daily you may want to know. Alex Kingston is pregnant. Her baby is due in March. I don't know if they'll write it in or not. That's the possible spoiler. Anthony Edwards will not attend emmys because Noah Wyle wasn't nominated. Aw, how sweet of him to do that.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), September 07, 2000

I agree Cammie. The fighting needs to stop now. Anyways, I'm glad AE is doing that. How sweet of him. So now Ming-Na and Alex are pregnant? Cool! I hope they write it in. Since it looks like Mark and Elizabeth will be getting married it would work. That's just my opinion though.

-- Andie (errocks@now.com), September 07, 2000.

I heard the same information about Alex Kingston on ET tonight. I was wondering if the writers will write in her pregnancy, particulary because of Ming-Na's pregnancy. According to ET Alex Kingston is due in March so I'm thinking that they will hide her pregnancy, and perhaps because she wears more scrubs and surgery tends to only show the top half of most of the cast that it would be easier to hide her prenancy. What do you think? That's interesting that AE is not attending the Emmy's. I've come to the conclusion that while I think that NW was terrific this year the supporting actor category had a lot of great competition. This coming season could be even better for him even more complex. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for next year (plus he might be honored at the Golden Globes)

-- Emma (webbef@hotmail.com), September 07, 2000.

Yes, but I wouldnt like them to get married because of it, I hope they handle the marriage differently, I dont think I could bear another couple of lovebirds wondering is he/she doing this because of the baby? a la Doug-Carol. It 'd be interesting, remember when Liz was angry with her mother because she wasnt around and Ma Corday said "would you sacrifice your career?" or something like that. I would like to see Mark as a housewife.

-- jules (jules@operamail.com), September 07, 2000.

By the way, I didnt mean that Carol&Doug's storyline wasnt interesting. It was. But if I wanted to see it again, I'd rewind my past episodes tapes, I'd like to see something different with Greene and Corday.

-- jules (jules@operamail.com), September 07, 2000.

I hope they do write in Alex Kingston's pregnancy, because I think it could take the Mark/Elizabeth love story (which I really like) in a new direction. I don't necessarily mean marriage, but it would be interesting to see how they deal with it. As for Ming-Na's pregnancy, I hope that one *isn't* written in (I don't know one way or another, haven't been able to check old threads to see if someone else has posted on that) because I just can't see it...I think it would really come out of left field on the show.

-- Jennifer M. (jenbird@earthlink.net), September 07, 2000.

"It's a nice day for a white wedding..."

Well, this is a surprise! I wonder if Alex's pregnancy will be written into the show.

-- anne (sapphire_172@hotmail.com), September 07, 2000.

I agree that it would be very weird with 2 pregnant characters...they should change the shows name to "OB" or something...=)...but it could be worse...it could be Carter...remember the "Dr Benton I'm pregnant"? ;) Hey...maybe we could do that: get Carter pregnant...no other show has done it before has it...

-- jules (jules@operamail.com), September 07, 2000.

LOL Jules! You just reminded me of one of the episodes from The Cosby Show where Cliff dreams that him and some of the guys are pregnant and they give birth. It was hilarious!

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), September 07, 2000.

LOL Cammie! I remember that also! Now isn't this better than fighting?

-- Andie (errocks@now.com), September 07, 2000.

LOL Jules, it's funny you mention that but I just read a fanfic where Carter dreamed he was pregnant with an alien. It was hilarious. I wish I remembered where I found the story so you guys could go read it, it just cracked me up.

PS--Thanks for the great spoiler info Cammie :)

-- Renee (slinne32@aol.com), September 07, 2000.

I recently read a weird fanfic where Carter returned from Atlanta pregnant. He comes to the ER in labor, and the story turns into something along the lines of "Rosemary's Baby." :-)

My apologies to anyone who wants to read it - I honestly can't remember the title, author or address of the fanfic site.

-- Beth (bsmith@internet-95.com), September 07, 2000.

Renee- LOL - you and I must have typed our posts at the same moment!

-- Beth (Bsmith@internet-95.com), September 07, 2000.

I hope that they write the baby into the storyline, especially if Mark and Elizabeth are going to get married. I think Elizabeth having a baby would be an interesting storyline as to what she does concerning her career. As for AE not going, congrats. Guess he feels the same way the rest of us doing concerning Noah. That's loyalty and friendship. Dunno if it's worth watching if the cast isn't going to be there though. Any word if Noah's going to go anyway?

-- Joanne (bucklind@hotmail.com), September 07, 2000.

Noah leaving? Noooooooooooo, please, pretty please...=( I wonder if Alex mentioned how many months is she pregnant...because that could affect on the decision of showing it in her character or not...by the way I dont know how many months pregnant is the actress that plays Deb...Does anybody know it?

-- jules (jules@operamail.com), September 08, 2000.

Sorry---sorry....I forgot the baby is due in March...=(

-- jules (jules@operamail.com), September 08, 2000.

Don't worry Jules. I think Joanne meant Noah may not go to the Emmys. He's not leaving ER. :) It will be interesting toward the end of the season what will happen to Alex's and Ming's characters since they will probably both be on maternity leave. I don't know when Ming is due.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), September 08, 2000.

=) phew! that was close! This could be Babyshower part 2! I think they could handle it better if they'd go back to giving more spaces to support characters, like Lydia and Haleh and all the nurses...anyway, with so many characters they can dedicate more to develop Luka, Dave and Abby than worrying about Liz and Deb.

-- jules (jules@operamail.com), September 08, 2000.

I agree with Jennifer M., Ming-Na's pregnancy would be out of left field, but since Deb doesn't normally wear scrubs and isn't in the OR, it might be harder to hide. Alex Kingston's could easily be written in. I wonder what Rachel's reaction would be if Mark and Elizabeth had a baby? She seems to have matured in the past season.

Go Anthony Edwards, I think that's really cool that he's "protesting" the Emmys because Noah wasn't nominated. He definitely deserved a nomination.

-- Cindy (tailchasers51@hotmail.com), September 08, 2000.

Alex's pregnancy may be easier to write in, but now that they've already written in Ming-Na's, I don't know if I can see them writing in yet another pregnancy. And while Alex's would be easier to write in, her's is also easier to hide with scrubs, operating tables, sitting behind a desk being she actually has an office... Of course, like everyone else, I much prefer to see Elizabeth have a child. The hospital daycare is going to be quite busy in season 8

-- Frances Christine (lghtmycndl@aol.com), September 08, 2000.

That is so awesome that AE is not going because NW didn't get a nomination.

Cammie, did they actually show AE say this on the show (E! is a TV show right?) I wish I could see that. I'm glad he thinks he was worthy w/ the rest of us. Esp. since awhile back a few of us were ready to petition against this! I'm glad someone who can actually get noticed is doing it. Although does that mean that NW won't be there either? I hope not. I hope some people will be there to support JM. It seems AE really doesn't care too much for the departed cast members, which I didn't really want to get into a month or two ago (with the "If they leave, they should stay away comment). I still think he's a nice guy.

As for 2 pregnancies, I think that's just too much, but if both of them really are pregnant in real life, I think that's great. I think Elizabeth having a baby now would be a bit much...it would be nice to see a normal relationship and progression into their relationship.

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), September 08, 2000.

Yep. They showed it and he was mad. I now realize that he was joking about the comments he made about JM and GC. He was laughing then. He wasn't laughing at all last night. But one point you brought up Elaine about AE not supporting his former castmates there probably will be those who say that he dissed JM by not being there. So eitheir way he'll be critized. I think he's the only one not going. I don't know about NW.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), September 08, 2000.

I have to laugh at the idea of *petitioning* about someone not getting an Emmy nomination... petition *who*? Boycott *who*? LOL.

-- Tracy (bankybooda@aol.com), September 08, 2000.

I have a question...besides AE and JM, would some other cast members be invited to the Emmys? Which ones?

-- jules (jules@operamail.com), September 08, 2000.

THey're all invited.

-- Andie (errocks@now.com), September 08, 2000.

I was wondering about that too Jules. Obviously, not every actor can go so who gets invited (other than nominees and presenters) and who doesn't? I think the cast of the show that a best actor/actress is nominated from gets invited, but I'm not sure. Anyone know how that works?

-- amanda (amanda.rehm@home.com), September 08, 2000.

ER was nominated for Best Drama. That means all the castmembers ANd TPTB from ER are aoutomatically invited to attend the EMMY awards ceremony.

-- Brenda (jckwfan@aol.com), September 08, 2000.

I know that Goran, Michael, and Ming-Na will be in attendance. The entire cast is invited. I'm *sure* most will show up, and am highly unconcerned if Anthony Edwards does or not. All I care about is the fact that Julianna is nominated and is presenting. That's all the reason I need to watch.

Those wondering how far along Ming-Na is...we can check her out if they show her at the Emmys. :-) he

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), September 08, 2000.

Elaine- here is his exact words on the emmys. "So we're supposed to get excited about the emmys when he (Noah) wasn't nominated. Hard to respect that." I too realize that he was joking about JM and GC because he was not laughing at all. Of course he tried to put a little humor at the end by saying "I guess I won't be hosting the Emmys next year".

-- Andie (errocks@now.com), September 08, 2000.

I meant he was not laughing at all last night. And he was laughing when he made the other comment.

-- Andie (errocks@now.com), September 08, 2000.

Although I would prefer Elizabeth's pregnancy to be written in rather than Deb's, I think it's more likely they'll include Deb's since she's (compared to Elizabeth) not such an important character. They've already treated Carol's pregnancy last year as a really big thing so I guess this time they might rather make it not such a big storyline. If they would use Elizabeth they would have to make it big, with the marriage and Rachel and everything. On the other side, as we don't know so much about Deb's private life I think it would be easier to just 'let it slip in' some way. - It seems I didn't express myself really well, hope you still get my thoughts on this.

-- Anne (annebercher@gmx.de), September 09, 2000.

Thanks everyone for letting me know what he said...that's awesome. AE seems to be very opinionated, but, you know, some people are, I still like him. I bet if NW were standing by he'd just be shaking his head and laughing at that comment (from the way his personality seems to be). AEs saying that helps get past the fact that the emmy's overlooked him, but the cast and others aren't.

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), September 09, 2000.

It is not uncommon for two people working together to be pregnant et the same time so I don't mind if Elizabeth and Deb are. Most pregnancies are just part of life and there is no obligation to make two big stories about those pregnancies. In fact, weren't a nurse pregnant once without anyone in the ER making a fuss over it? It is funny though that we were talking about the fact that most of the doctors in ER were single with no children and the poof! 2 babies!

-- Manon (brault@saglac.qc.ca), September 09, 2000.

I agree with Jennifer M. She is right, It would be wonderful if they wrote in Alex's pregnency and put her and Mark's relationship to the next level. It would be kind of hard to balance all that out, and I am sooo curious what Rachel would think, or for that matter, Mark's ex wife. It would all be interesting. But like I said, it would be quite somewhat different for them two to have a baby together, and I hope it happens, so i'll be crossing my fingers along with many other people. We'll just have to wait and see (although its a month away for the first episode, I can't wait!!!).

-- Amy C. (alcapaul@hotmail.com), September 10, 2000.

I have no desire to see either character pregnant. We saw Carol pregnant last season. We need a reprieve from pregnancies of main cast woman. Since, they are writing in Deb's pregnancy, they should not make Corday pregnant. I also have no desire to see more of Mark's Greene personal life. We saw way too much of it last season. I know many that feel that way as well. I would eventually like to see some other ER male character get married and have a family. We saw enough of Mark's Greenes married life the first several season. His personal life does not interest me and I don't think they should focus on it much anymore. Let us sees someone elses for a change. They can shoot around AK pregnancy much more easily than Ming Na. Let's hope they do.

-- Brenda (jckwfan@aol.com), September 10, 2000.

Just a comment on the emmys...my local newspaper is predicting on Julianna Margulies winning for lead actress in a drama. They commented that she has "never been warmer or more human than any other season"...which I find funny considering everyone's opinions here. Honestly, I thought her actions (dealing w/ Doug's absence and newborn twins and work) were very human, but she hasn't been any more warm than usual, if not less. Although I enjoyed her interaction w/ her babies, her friendship w/ Luka, and Great Expectations should get her an emmy alone. Although the excitement is kind of ruined w/ NW not being nominated. Still, JM is still my hero, in terms of actresses! (by the way, they did not predict ER winning...they predicted West Wing or the Sopranos again)

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), September 10, 2000.

I'd rather see Chen's pregnancy than Elizabeth's. Chen is a character whose life is still a mystery to us. We don't know what man she was seeing or what role he will play, if any. We haven't seen where she lives. We don't know much about her relationship with her parents and how they will react. Chen is a blank slate. They are free to fill in any story they want around her pregnancy. But Elizabeth's pregnancy would be a completely predictable outgrowth of her thing with Mark. If I wanted to see a couple of main characters on the show buying baby supplies and feeling the baby kick and all that, I would MUCH rather have seen it with Doug and Carol, who had real chemistry and history. Mark and Elizabeth suck. I hope they camouflage Alex's pregnancy with scrubs and having her stand behind counters.

-- Chris (peppermill@anet.com), September 10, 2000.

You know what? I have never understood why people think that Benton & Corday were such a good couple, and they think that Corday & Greene are not. I never saw a moment of warmth or support, at least, not from Benton to Corday. On the other hand, Corday & Greene have been there for each other, and they're perceived as boring. As for Doug & Carol, there were times when they were terrible to each other, yet we see them as ER's best and most romantic couple...Is there something wrong with us? Should we get a pshyc consult STAT? ;)

-- jules (jsheldon@operamail.com), September 11, 2000.

You're right, Jules. If mine and my husband's relationship was like Doug and Carol's, I think I would definitely need psychiatric help. That is not to say that I didn't like their storyline -- I did. But, I do wish that the writers had come up with some other way to reunite them besides making Carol pregnant. Oh, well. What's done, is done. I said one time that I wish that TPTB would have allowed David Green to be around long enough for Elizabeth and Mark to get married and have children. I still think that would have been great. However, I think that it is too soon for them to have children. Why don't the writers let their relationship progress normally, let them get married, and then let them have children. I agree with the people who think the show should hide Alex's pregnancy. As for Ming Na's, I'm not sure what they should do.

-- Katrina (cattrek2@hotmail.com), September 11, 2000.

Right, if Doug was the love of her life, they didnt needed her to get pregnant to remember him. Some people will need a time away from each other (oops, that sounds like a Chicago song) before they can reunite.

-- jules (jules@operamail.com), September 11, 2000.

No one knows when Ming-Na's baby's due. I did see a short clip of her belly on tv the day after the Emmys. It looked pretty round, so she's at least 5-6 months along, I think. Who knows. If she's that far along, wont it seem kind of weird for her to be so far along in the show? Hmm, just a thought!

-- Ina (ifelsch@yahoo.com), September 12, 2000.

Good point, Ina. If this season is to start off where last season ended then she would be way too far along. I know there was mention of one epi covering a month's time, but she did look to be about 5-6 months pregnant.

-- amanda (amanda.rehm@home.com), September 12, 2000.

JLS mentioned in a spoiler that the first episode will start out where MD left off and then during the episode 90 days will have past. Which would make sense for that to happen otherwise she would be way too far along for no time to have passed like someone above said. 3 months will have gone by and I'm guessing she was pregnant at least in the last 4 episodes.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), September 12, 2000.

I'm thinking that she's due in December or January meaning she'll probably take the off a couple of months and somehow they'd have to explain her sudden disappearence to everyone. In fact she may be gone befor the baby is due. Does anyone know if any actresses have worked up to near the actual due date. I wouldn't recommend it in Ming's case since ER is a fast pace show. I wonder what Julianna has to say about this. I'm sure she's glad but isn't ironic that no main characters have been pregnant yet while on the show and then she plays a pregnant lady and then two of her former castmates are now pregnant.

-- Andie (er@now.com), September 12, 2000.

I highly doubt Ming-Na will be able to take "a couple of months" off. Gillian Anderson was back to work very soon (like a week or 2) after the birth of her child a few years back. Ming-Na would be able be gone maybe a month at most.

If they choose to write in Alex's pregnancy, I predict perhaps a season finale birth for Elizabeth. Since Alex is due in March, she can deliver, and then take a month off and return mid-April to shoot the season finale and do it all over again. :-) OR since Alex isn't showing in the least bit yet, they can still hide it for a while and make Elizabeth pregnant later on in the season when Alex is really showing. And then maybe they'll have Elizabeth deliver NEXT season. Since for her to have a May delivery, she'd have to get pregnant in the first episode or 2. Oh the speculat

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), September 12, 2000.

That should say "speculation" on the end. I still don't know why it cuts off on me..

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), September 12, 2000.

The good news for Ming Na is she's on an ensemble show and will hopefully be able to take off more time than Gillian Anderson (X- Files). Also, it takes something like 10 days to film an epi so she might be out for a few weeks but not miss that many epis.
