encoding directly to mpeg(not AVI!) with an ATI ALL IN WONDER PRO (NOT 128)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I tried in many ways to capture an MPEG file directly at my friend's place who owns the old ATI ALL IN WONDER PRO with Virtual dub but no matter which codec I am adding it doesn't want to let me encode directly in MPEG and I desperatly need to encode a 65 min video in MPEG-1 format.

Is encoding directly to hardware software or hardware related. I know there is a post on that subject but the question is still unanswered to me.

I only have 2 Gb free and a 60 min mpeg is less than 650Mb . Do I have enough HD space?

This is on a Pentium III 450 Mhz with 128 Megs RAM. I cannot believe it would be impossible to encode directly in MPEG.

However, I would really appreciate to know whether or not if I would be in position to do a 65 min MPEG directly without going through an AVI.

Your help would be really appreciated.

I have a ATI TV Wonder, it uses the "digital vcr" program. Go to your TV program and check on the settings and pick the custom format. On the list, there is a MPEG-1 option. Hope this helps
