Pilot makes emergency landing in Douglas

Staff reports | Respond to this story

A possibly catastrophic helicopter accident was avoided Wednesday morning due to the quick thinking and luck of a pilot.

The pilot, Gregory Cody, was flying over a wooded area near the BayMeadows Subdivision and made an emergency landing after losing power to his helicopter.

A loss of power to the hydraulic system was ruled as the cause of the aircraft's power loss.

Cody was spraying the area with pesticide at the time of the emergency landing. He was flying an aircraft owned by Helicropter, Inc., a Rentz company that specializes in crop dusting.

Cody's helicopter was undamaged in the emergency landing. He escaped uninjured.
