Residue left on HP5 negs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

I processed several rolls of HP5 in HC110 this weekend in my Jobo. I used the "B" dilution, and did everything else by the (Jobo) book (prewet, etc...). The negatives look great, but there was a weird stringy black scum left on the outer edge of a couple rolls. It looked like very fine thread, and was not in the image area, only around the sprocket holes.

Did I not rinse well enough? What the heck is this stuff?

Thanks,

Jim

Jim, if you are using a Jobo drum, and part of the outside of the film touches the drum during processing, the anti-halation layer on the back of the film will not dissolve completely. I suspect this is your problem. It is harmless, and a few minutes in the wash should rinse everything away. Hope this helps, ;^D)
