small house plans

Does anyone have any info about building tiny houses, or know where I might find floor plans. I am thinking of approximately 400 sq. ft. for a camp or a home for 2 people.

For floor plans check some of the log home sites; most have floor plans. Look for their section on hunting cabins or get-aways. They are usually very small and might be what you need. I think you can print off the floor plans too.

kuhnsbros.com is one place to start. Do a search for Log+Homes. Good luck.

Try your local library -- ours here has plan books by Sunset Books -- they actually have one whole book (probably about 200 floor plans) of small to very small homes.

Have you considered a small prefab metal building? A little insulation and room dividers and you have it. A bachelor down the road from us did one this way.

Some friends of mine have a lovely guest cabin made from one of the barn kits/storage sheds that you buy at the lumber store. It is about 12x16 and the barn roof (gambrel I think they are called) enabled them to put a loft over half of it for sleeping. A full size mattress will fit on the floor. They added a porch on one end, with half the porch enclosed for the bathroom. The bathroom has a commode, sink, and shower stall, tight quarters but functional. A folding door goes into the bathroom, which took less room that a swinging door. The rest of the house is one big room. This particular kit came with 2x4 walls and trusses so insulating and finishing was easy. It is sided with T1-11 siding, shingle roof.

TMEN had a plan for a 12 X 20 house back in - I think - 1978 or 9. I always wanted to build it. It had a very steep shed roof, with bunks hung from chains in the front part. If you want, I could try to find that issue (may take a while!) and copy and snail mail you the article. If so, click on my address and send me your snail mail address and I will gird my loins and head to the shed on a treasure hunt!

Draw your own! If this is not your forte, e-mail me what you want and I'll design one for you. I have designed and built a 2400 ft2 house, a 30 x 32 barn/shop, and lots of other things. Just give me some parameters to work with! GL!
