how to hang a bat house

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I found a real nice bat house at a garage sale - cheap of course - and now I'm trying to figure out how to mount it high enough. Those fancy telescoping poles they sell for purple martin houses would do, but the are very expensive. The instructions say it needs to be about 15 feet high and preferably not on a building. Any ideas on how to pole mount it? I'm not fond of heights and don't have an extension ladder....

depending on where you live i donot think its the right time to hang it now, most of our bats are gone. we hung ours on the house outside the attice window, figured if the liked the attic anyway ... they started using it last spring and come back each year. make sure that what ever is below wont be effected by the droppings and clean it out when they leave. we are northern maryland so they do leave. how about the side of a barn? hange it where you want them to feed the most.

I found a very interesting website about bat houses -- hanging, what color to paint, etc. I would note that if you paint yours, you probably would want to do it now so that the smell will be gone by next year. Go to Criteria for successful bat houses
