Intel finds bug in processor
--3:56 pm - By Janet Haney
Intel (INTC: news, msgs) confirmed Monday
that it found a defect in its
Pentium III processor running at 1.13
gigahertz, which began shipping July 31.
The bug has to do with a circuit in the
processor that will need to be changed.
Intel spokesman Michael Sullivan said the
company has shipped a very small
number of the processors which is in
limited production, and called the
problem "inmaterial" to its quarterly
revenue numbers. Sullivan added that it
could take a couple of months to retify
the situation. Intel shares seemed
unfettered by the news, after hitting an
intraday high of 75 13/16 in earlier
action.MarketWatch
