Sherry Stringfield returning? (potential spoiler) : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

I was just wondering, is there any more news concerning Sherry Stringfield making an appearance on "ER"? This would prove to be interesting, especially with the supposed engagement of Mark & Elizabeth.

Response to Dr. Lewis (potential spoiler)

I don't want to see Sherry Stringfield back. I mean I have nothing against her but what purpose would it serve? *She* chose to leave and actually breached her contract - so why would she even want to return to ER? She even trashed the show - GC and JM never have done that - More importantly why would TPTB have her back? They basically blacklisted her from the business for several years when she left back in 1996. Besides isn't AE always saying ER needs to move forward and doesn't want old characters back as he so made clear with his recent comments about GC and JM. He would be a hypocrite to say he wants SS back. By the way, how come he didn't b**ch when Ming Na Wen came back. She was there before back in S1 playing a med student. Just wondering.

Response to Dr. Lewis (potential spoiler)

IMO all these "if you go stay away" thing is not about b****ing those who went away. I think AE doesnt want the fans to stay glued to their TVs waiting for GC or JM to drop by, because that wouldnt be fair for GC's and JMs fans. Personally I think that the producers and writers dragged the JM & GC storyline for too long, and that was dishonest to fans, because we were waiting to see if GC would come or not. Lines like "he has been seeing the girls" were so lame. The bad wrinting alert must have gone crazy with that... Imagine that now, Greene would tell us that Lewis and him have stayed friends by mail...that'd be so silly...On the other hand, nobody was waiting for Deb to come back, its almost a fresh start. If Sherry'd come back, they should handle it in a similar matter and I think Lewis and Greene shouldnt be an item, I mean, they've been 4 years without thinking in each other, no mail, no phone. If Lewis is coming back, I hope they handle the writing better than they have lately: she must come back with a reasonable excuse, and she must have a storyline that makes sense.

Response to Dr. Lewis (potential spoiler)

I read that the whole Sherry Stringfield-returning-story was complete nonsense -based on a misunderstanding: It's now clear that Sally Field's playing Abby Lockhart's mum for a few episodes, and apparently somebody mixed up the names (???!), causing the rumour of the Lewis revival.

-- Elisabeth (, August 28, 2000.

its hard to say if she comming back or would make sence though.since anthony edwards is gonna die,you would think his old friends would come back for a goodbye or something.i think thats how theyll bring her back ..if they even do ,but just for one or 2 episodes.but they definately should.sherry is awesome!

Stringfield Scrubs Up for 'ER' June 5, 2001 12:18 pm EST

By Michael Fleming NEW YORK (Variety) - Sherry Stringfield, an original cast member of "ER" who departed after the show's first three seasons, has made a deal to return for the drama's next three seasons.

That Stringfield will reprise her role as Dr. Susan Lewis is as much a surprise as her decision to leave the show following her third season. Stringfield, who got Emmy nominations for her three seasons, quit long before Warner Bros. extracted a record $13 million an episode from NBC, and then made all of her original cast mates among the highest paid dramatic TV stars of all time (with the exception of George Clooney).

Stringfield joined "ER" after starring in the first season of the breakout drama "NYPD Blue" but eventually tired of the media circus that followed TV's top-rated drama.

"I just felt like really working again, and it was the obvious choice for me," said Stringfield. "It's a great show and I certainly didn't leave on bad terms. The only reason I left was I just needed a life and I have absolutely no regrets because I got one. I got married, I had a baby girl in March. And it will be cool to work together with everyone again."

Stringfield also had no regrets leaving before her castmates got wealthy off the show's runaway success: "I was happy for them, I thought, good, they're giving some of it to the actors. But I totally believe I did the right thing at the time."

Executive producer John Wells has three more seasons to fill on the show's NBC extension deal. He and WB recently locked Noah Wyle into a lucrative three season extension that will make his Dr. John Carter character the drama's centerpiece after Anthony Edwards leaves at the end of next season. Eriq La Salle, who's preparing to direct, produce and star in the feature "Crazy As Hell," said he hasn't yet decided whether to negotiate an extension.

Given Stringfield's change of heart, Wells and WB are guaranteed at least two cast members tied to the show's launch. Stringfield will have one season with Edwards, with whom she'd generated romantic sparks before her character left to go home to Phoenix. Edwards' Dr. Mark Greene character has married Alex Kingston's Dr. Elizabeth Corday, so there will be interesting dramatic reunion potential.

"Sherry was an integral member of the 'ER' cast for the first three seasons," said Wells. "We are delighted to welcome her back as a series regular and can't wait to work with her again."

Since Stringfield left behind that steady $70,000 an episode pay check and relocated to New York, she has done voiceover work, taught acting at her alma mater SUNY Purchase and acted in indie films.

I hope they handle the working mother/doctor thing better than they have with Elizabeth etc if Sherry does come back. It'll be a cop-out if she isn't with little Suzie. Instead of working in the ER - maybe she'll be one of those other doctors in the hospital on the 6th or 7th of whatever floor.

-- Sharon Casey (, June 22, 2001.

Sharon, in case you didn't know, it's not "if" Sherry comes back anymore. She's signed a three-year contract and will return during the next season.

-- Diana (, June 24, 2001.

Sharon, Susan isn't a mother and I highly doubt we'll see Suzie since Susan left to live closer to Chloe and suzie and the cop that Chloe was seeing.

-- James (, June 25, 2001.

Um..I just wented to say, that i think its fantastic if Sherry returns to ER. I was woundering though, when will the epasodes be shown in Australia?
