Need a good recipe for Bread Puddinggreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
Does anyone have a really good recipe for bread pudding. My kids love the ones at restaurants. I have tried a couple of recipes, but they aren't as good as the ones we have had at restaurants. Thanks so much!!

Easy Cinnamon Bread Pudding2 cups bread cubes - I use Pepperidge Farm cinnamon swirl bread or any other cinnamon raisin bread (six slices)
2 cups milk, scalded (3 min in microwave)
1/4 cup sugar
3 Tbl butter
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp vanilla
Add butter and sugar to scalded milk, stir until butter is melted and sugar disolved. Add a bit of the hot milk to the eggs and stir to warm them. Slowly beat the eggs into the milk, then add salt and vanilla. Pour over bread cubes in a 1 quart glass pan. Allow to soak for 10 minutes or so. Place pan containing pudding into a larger pan ( I use 1 quart corning ware inside a 2 quart corning ware pans), add 1 inch of water to bottom pan. Bake at 350 for 1 hour, or until knife blade come out clean. If you prefer a richer version, use 1/2 and 1/2 for up to 1/2 of the milk. Enjoy!

Hi Denise, here's one that my mother-in-law gave me years ago and is delicious. 1 cup sugar2 TBL melted butter
2 cups milk
4 slices of bread (sometimes I use just a little more)
2 eggs
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
nuts
Beat egg, add sugar & salt. Add milk. Break up bread and add to egg mixture. Add vanilla, melted butter & nuts.
Pour mixture into pan. (I usually use a brownine pan. 9x9, I think) Bake in 375 degree oven for 40 mins.
Nutmeg sauce (optional)
1/2 cup sugar
1 TBL cornstarch
JUST a pinch of salt
1 cup boiling water
1 tsp butter
1/4 tsp nutmeg
mix sugar, cornstarch & salt. Add boiling water and stir while cooking for about 5 mins. Remove and add butter and nutmeg.
Spoon nutmeg sauce over warm bread pudding. yummmmmmmmm

Denise, forgot to double space when I first started typing the recipe, so hope you noticed the 1 cup sugar at the top. Sorry!

My wife makes one from an Amish cookbook. We like to ad extra raisens or currents. For a special treat try using bread pudding as a poultry stuffing. MMMMMM Yummy!

The best bread pudding I've ever had is from the recipe in "Book of Great Desserts" by Maida Heatter. "Awesome" doesn't even come close. Try it -- you'll love it!
