New Farmers' Market needs your support

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Kentlands : One Thread

Is everyone aware that we now have a Farmers' Market at Main Street Pavillion Park (Main St. & Midtown Rd) on Friday afternoon, and several hours on Saturday and Sunday? When we told the farmers, today, how glad we were that they were here, they told us that if business didn't get better, they wouldn't come back. Please support this effort. We don't want to lose it. Come on out and tell your friends and neighbors to come out. They have some nice-looking fruit, veggies, and flowers; and one of the people today has some wonderful, home-baked bread.

Thanks, Dee. While walking past the pavillion yesterday evening I jotted down the times that the market is open: Friday 3-6:00 P.M., Saturday 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., and Sunday 1-5:00 P.M.

We bought the tastiest sweet corn we've had in years last Saturday at this market.

I agree with the vendors that they need more community support to make it worth their while. I also think that the vendors need to find additional vendors (even if it temporarily means more competition)to help make the concept more viable. It's like everything else: as long as it's a viable service, it's up to the community to support it. Otherwise, it's going away.
