Richard Wins, CBS Loses

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I think the real Survivor loser was CBS. Prior to the program it was estimated 40 million people would watch it. Suspect that's more than Who Shot JR or the final episode of MASH. Can only speak for myself, but when Rudy was voted out, I changed channels as I was no longer interested in the outcome. I suspect viewership dropped elsewhere as well.

They are already working on a Survivor II to the held in the Australian Outback; however, I just can't see the same level of interest now that it's been done already and so many people are going to be upset by the final outcome.

i agree . the best survivor didn't win , it was the best game player .(the kid of games played in politics) I realy was voting for rudy too, not the fnf as he called himself.

Was that the best game player or manipulator?

Actually, I think the biggest loser was Sue. Talk about a totally poisoned attitude! Snakes and rats! WOW. I hope I'm not in the same lane with her on the highway when she's behind the wheel of her truck.

But, I agree with you Ken, the interest won't be the same on sequels. It was a fun, novel, summer distraction. Now, in true American overkill, everyone is going to jump on the bandwagon and beat the idea to death.

I liked the idea the producer of Survivor had of possibly using the MIR space station. I'd sure hate to be the one to get voted off that thing! A free-fall and landing at 18,000 mph would really be hard on my knees. :)

Sue made an a** out of herself and showed her true self .I can't believe Ken you turned it off after Rudy left ! I ahd to wait and see who won .I wish it wasn't Rich , but ow well .

I had only watched two prior episodes so didn't really know the personalities and events that had transpired but my girfriend tried to fill me in on the details. She was so disappointed that it was Rich because he had been so obnoxious. I think Rich was just as surprised as everyone else that he won. I thought it was interesting that the final moment came down to Greg's deciding vote and he asked the two players to pick a number between one and ten. So the bottom line was just a game of chance and had no bearing on how the game had been played or what the people had done to each other. Kind of ironic for all of the hype it had and the philosphizing everyone did about it. I just had to sit there and chuckle.

I would love to be on a survivor show like this if it was in the woods somewhere in north country. Otherwise, I couldn't survive the heat and sun. It would be a great way to lose weight. Gee, if you win, you get to have someone pay you for losing weight. I guess that is the way Rich can look at it.

i never watched it but my gram always told me about it. was rich the guy that always ran around in his birthday suit?

-- Amber (ambrosia75_@hotmail.com), August 24, 2000.

I think Rich WAS that guy. I never saw the show, and just heard a bit about it on this forum, but there was a story this morning in USA Today about it, on the front page. I read the first paragraph or two, paid for my gas, and left. I had a thrift shop to check out!

Over 51 million people watched the show, and over 36 million stayed tuned-in to catch the reunion show held after. I don't think CBS lost anything on this deal.

I was glad Susan didn't win, since she obviously wasn't listening when they explained the rules. Eventually a person would have to vote you off, regardless of good intentions. I actually agreed with Gervase about her being a sore loser.

Colleen, your already in a survivor program. I don't know about anyone else, but I couldn't do this homesteading lifestyle without salvage, modification and country engineering. Sounds like "Survivor , the real thing". By the way, after 39 days on that island, they're all going to make a fortune doing guest spots and commercials (not to mention the occasional centerfolds, just hope Richard isn't one)

Actually I thought that Rich would win, but was hoping it would of been Gretchen. I find it strange that they were given rice as a food source and didn't have to find all their food themselves..This would of made for some people dropping out voluntarily. I heard that the first person off got $2,500 and then it went up $1,000 for each succeeding person, till the got to the final 9. All in all I found it quite refreshing from the summer reruns.

I was down the shore for the last episode and went to the hotel room to see it that night. After the show, we went on the Boardwalk and it seemed awfully empty that night. I think everyone was watching it.

I think Kelly was smart for voting off Rudy. If Rudy stayed, he would have won. Did you hear him when he said he signed up for Survivor II?
