why use tg settings , whats wrong with default settings

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

I think its stupid to use TG settings cause they make the games harder and only allow a few elite players to make high scores why can't we use default settings?

OK, this is my partially fault for not sending you an introductory e- mail. PLEASE read the RULES page, located in the top menu bar, before posting to this message board. Your comments are completely off base-- we do play with default settings, TG settings are the exception to the rule, and are only required on two games currently: BombJack and Joust. If you want to know the reasons why these two games are differnet, then I encourage you to read the debates about the TG issue on this message board. If you want to know why a player would opt to play with settings that are harder than default, then you're probably at the wrong site.

Please, if you are unsure about anything related to this site, send me an e-mail at qan@home.com, instead of posting to this messageboard. No question is too small. :)

I also politely request my fellow MARPers to refrain from responding to this recent post of yours.

Sincerely, Q.T.Quazar, MARP Rules Coordinator

Good grief! Is complaining ALL you're going to do?

Why can't we use continues? Why TG settings?

You don't HAVE to use TG settings for regular MARP. It's just that you MAY if you want to. TG settings are more challenging and you'll see in some games that the top scores are posted with TG settings. This therefore proves the person playing the game would probably achieve a riduclously highscore with defaults.

Of course, you do HAVE to use TG settings in tournaments as those are the rules we play by.

Surely if you found the message board, you could have taken the time to look around and actually found the "New players click here" link at the top of the new page, and actually read it before posting.

If you don't like the way MARP works without continues, then set up a site of your own that allows it!

Sheesh.

The reason why TG settings is suggested is because in the event Twin Galaxies uses a section in their 2nd edition of the book of world records for mame scores, the games they pull from will have to be played on these settings or their not official. TG came up with settings on games since the early 80's for specific reasons. Some of them may be subject to change but only TG can do that. Some games do use the default settings but the ones that don't need to be played on the right settings or else they won't be considered for the next book.
