Notice on 37b6...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

37b6, while having great new games, has one MAJOR flaw! The playbacks of inps is broke, aka doesn't work! Sorry, folks. At least it looks that way, can anyone else confirm it?

Same here, trying to playback gives NOT FOUND for ROMs which you definitely have. Damned annoying... Can't playback Tickenest's pkunwarj score, and it won't playback correctly with beta 5... It was checked before it was uploaded, right?

Anyway, I've posted something about it on the MAME message board (new release board), so we'll see what transpires from it...

You will need to D/L the lastest ROMs as some of these games have had their PROMS updated!! Remember those pesky 256 bytes files???

Woe is me. Woe is me. I guess it's back to beta5 for me. DAMN YOU NICOLA. But we still love him.

Pat, why won't the pc games playback, then?

Like I say because of the PROM changes. This doesn't affect all games, only ones that had a dummy PROM in them. Before the m36b06 release, only a PROM placeholder was required. The missing proms could be ANYTHING as long as the PROM file was present and was the correct length (usually 256 bytes). Now with this latest release the actual PROMS are being used, so old ROMs work with pre m37b06, new ROMs, with the real PROMS, work with m37b06 and future releases. This is just like the issue that popped up with certain games back when we transitioned from mame34 to mame35...

Pat, I did mention that running m37b6 normally works perfectly well... While I've only really tried it with Waku Waku 7 and Penguin-kun Wars so far, these romsets haven't changed. And it says NOT FOUND for *all* the ROMs only with -playback, despite the set being correct.

Damn you're stubborn Pat... there's nothing to argue about though, Chris is right. NOTHING plays back in m37b6. If someone was missing the PROM file, how would they be able to record a game in the first place? And I've tried playing back recordings made in another version, where the roms still check out for m37b6. It doesn't work. Besides, when playing back it doesn't say it's missing the PROM file, it says it's missing *ALL* the roms.

Please, try this out for yourself before posting further...

All players please be advised that recordings using mame.37b6 are banned from the site and will be deleted with no notification, due to a MAME core problem. This ban will remain in effect until further notice.

Now that the new version has just been released, has anyone tested it out yet to make sure that inps play back properly? I'm sure EVERYONE will be going for these new games :)

Sincerely,

J.D. Lowe
